This month, Women Who Rock is teaming up with Gibson Guitars to bring you the Women Who Rock Concert Series, a virtual concert event benefitting Magee-Womens Research Institute in their mission to change the future of women’s health.
This week, Orianthi performed from the Gibson Guitars showroom in West Hollywood. After playing guitar for the first time at a very young age, Orianthi realized that she wanted to make a career out of music and now dazzles audiences with her powerful voice and feel-good songs. During the show, she performed her songs “You Don’t Wanna Know,” “Sinners Hymn,” and “Crawling Out of the Dark.”
“My mother had breast cancer and she got through it,” Orianthi said. “She went to the right doctor and got diagnosed at the right time.”
On average, there is a woman diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes in the United States alone. Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) is dedicated to researching ways to tailor treatment plans to each individual breast cancer patient to allow for the best possible care.
MWRI has also been testing new methods of treating more aggressive forms of breast cancer, such as immunotherapy, and has found the results to be quite positive against Triple Negative Breast Cancer. MWRI will continue striving to make these life-saving breakthroughs in women’s cancer research, and their efforts are greatly supported through donor contributions.
Please join Women Who Rock and Gibson Guitars as they #StrikeAChord this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by making a donation to Magee-Womens Research Institute here. All donations received will be matched by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan up to $25,000.
If you missed the performance from Orianthi, you can check it out on the Gibson Guitars Facebook page or YouTube channel. Also, be sure to check out the final performance in the Women Who Rock Concert Series featuring Rita Wilson on October 28.
