Over the years, social media has become an increasingly powerful tool for boosting up and coming artists and content creators to the next level, and a perfect example of that is TikTok sensation Meredith Bull.

Bull has been writing music since she was a child, and TikTok has provided her with a platform for showing off her creative process. Specifically, she has become known for making songs out of pretty much anything.

“Everything that I hear has a tone,” Bull said.

Bull uses a music production software called Ableton, which allows her to incorporate random sound clips with layered instrumentation to create the songs that have led to her having over a million followers on TikTok.

One of the many unique aspects of Bull’s content is how it covers a variety of styles. Bull says she always strives to try out multiple styles on TikTok, since different sounds often lend themselves to different music styles.

Last year, Bull enrolled in an online production school to learn how to properly produce her own music after working with various producers for the past ten years. However, her decision to go to school was not entirely influenced by her desire to learn the craft of production for herself; instead, Bull says she was tired of being put into uncomfortable situations with men. Going to school also gave her the creative freedom to pursue the vision she had for her own music without being controlled by someone else’s vision.

“One of the hardest things about being an artist is being vulnerable and no one picking it up,” Bull said. “What is going to pop off for you is what is most authentic to you.”

Although she has encountered her fair share of rude comments on social media regarding her music, Bull says she feels grateful that a vast majority of her interactions with strangers online have been positive. She also enjoys the atmosphere of support fostered on TikTok for artists and their wellbeing.

“I’m glad we started to shine light on mental health,” Bull said. “We need to take care of the artist and not just the art.”

Currently, Bull is working on creating new music and says that she will make videos for these songs if she notices a demand for it, but it is important to her to create music on occasion that was not born on TikTok. She has also recently performed a few virtual concerts on Zoom, but says her ultimate goal since childhood is to take her music on an international tour.

When it comes to any other female musicians out there who are wanting to take the first steps in pursuing their music career, Bull expresses the importance of putting in the work and going after your dreams no matter what.

“Go to school, learn on YouTube, you are capable of everything and so much more,” Bull said. “Go get it, girl.”
