Dolly, Drag, Drinks: Pittsburgh Celebrates International Women’s Day with Women who Rock and Hard Rock Cafe
On Wednesday night, fans of Dolly Parton, Women Who Rockers, and Pittsburghers passionate about women’s health and music came together to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Pittsburgh Hard Rock Cafe. The event, presented by Women who Rock™, was full of exciting activities celebrating women and women’s health.
After DJ Jess and Alora kicked off the show, it was time for some Dolly! While Dolly couldn’t make it to Pittsburgh, world-renowned Dolly tribute artist Karen Hester took the stage for an incredible show. Performing some of Dolly’s greatest hits like “Jolene”, “9 to 5”, and even a duet with a fan to “Islands in the Stream”; Karen made it feel like Dolly was right there in the room with us!
In addition to the fantastic female performers, it was important to remember the reason for the event: women’s health. Speakers from Magee-Womens Research Institute talked about the impact they’ve had on women’s health in the past and the growth they’ve seen over the years. When asked if anyone was a “Magee baby”, hands shot up all around the room. The work that the institute has done and continues to do has been absolutely groundbreaking in fields like cancer research, reproductive health, aging, and so much more.
Women who Rock is partnering up with Hard Rock Cafe’s around the world this month to bring women’s health and women in music to center stage. Visit your local Hard Rock Cafe (or take a trip!) and check out the limited-time merchandise, events, and cocktails
