Women Who Rock Founder Melinda Colaizzi Featured in WESA’s “Taking the Mic” Series
The new WESA Reports series spotlights seven Pittsburgh women who are challenging barriers and creating change throughout the music industry.
Women Who Rock Founder and CEO Melinda Colaizzi is featured in Taking the Mic, a new series and podcast from Pittsburgh’s NPR news station, 90.5 WESA.
In her individual episode, Colaizzi shares her journey as the frontwoman of Melinda & The Night Sky and the founder of Women Who Rock. She also discusses how her personal experience with endometriosis strengthened her commitment to advocating for women’s health equity and supporting the groundbreaking research underway at Magee-Womens Research Institute.
The series examines the experiences of women working throughout Pittsburgh’s music community—including the sexism, inequities and barriers they continue to face, as well as the ways they are building new opportunities and driving the industry forward.
Colaizzi is featured alongside six remarkable Pittsburgh artists: Casey Hanner, May Wilcher, Liz Berlin, Clara Kent, INEZ and Millie Dread. Together, their stories reflect the talent, resilience and leadership of the women shaping Pittsburgh’s music scene.
