The Cause
“We really need to find ways to uplift women, to make sure that their voices are heard, and to make sure that they’re being taken care of, which is why I really love Women Who Rock™.”
– Jordin Sparks, 2022 WWR Benefit Concert Headliner
Women in Music deserve equality
-
Only 2% of music producers are women
Not only are female producers so under-represented, a woman has never been awarded the Grammy for Producer of the Year.
-
A Gender Neutral Music Award features only male nominees
The Brit Awards decided last year to remove “male” and “female” categories for its best artist award, and then all the nominees were men.
-
Only 12% of hit songs were written by women
In a recent USC report, over 900 hit songs were examined, and it was found that women made up only 12% of the songwriters.
Furthermore, the percentage of female artists with hit songs fell from 22% to 20% from 2019 to 2020.
Why We need to Rock Women’s Health
-
Women weren't part of clinical trials until 1992
You read that right. Until 1992, most medical studies examined groups of men, and simply assumed that the findings would apply equally to women, with no regard for hormonal and other physiological differences.
And even after 1992, women’s health is still neglected. For example, the IIHS released a report in 2021 showing that women are more likely to be injured or killed in a car accident, due in part to the fact that crash test dummies 5’9” tall and weigh 171 pounds… the average size of a man.
-
Maternal mortality Rates are on the rise
Every day in 2020, almost 800 women died from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.
Rates of maternal mortality in the U.S. are higher than in other developed nations and black women are 3 to 4 times as likely to die in childbirth as white women.
-
Women get 10% of the NIH budget
The budget for the National Institutes of Health is almost a whopping $42 billion… but how much of that money is dedicated to women’s health research?
Only about $5 billion, or a dime for every dollar.
