This month, Women Who Rock teamed up with Gibson Guitars to bring you the Women Who Rock Concert Series, a virtual concert event benefitting Magee-Womens Research Institute in their mission to change the future of women’s health.

This week, Rita Wilson performed from the Gibson Guitars showroom in West Hollywood. As a breast cancer survivor herself, Wilson delivered a truly personal and emotional performance with songs inspired by her own struggles and those of women around her. These songs included “Where’s My Country Song,” “Bigger Picture,” and “Throw Me a Party.”

“As both a breast cancer survivor and a singer/songwriter, the Women Who Rock Virtual Concert Series felt like the perfect opportunity to raise awareness for the importance of cancer research through the power of music,” Wilson said. “I’m excited to perform alongside such a diverse and strong group of female artists and partner with Women Who Rock and Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation to hopefully make an impact in the continued fight against breast cancer.”

Wilson was actually supposed to perform at the Women Who Rock benefit concert this past spring, but the event was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Despite the setback, however, Wilson remains very passionate about the cause to support women’s cancer research.

“You always think that it’s not going to happen to you, and you pray that it doesn’t,” Wilson said. “But sometimes it can be you, as it was for me.”

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) is dedicated to finding ways in which breast cancer, as well as various other forms of cancer, can be treated both quickly and effectively.

MWRI currently enrolls thousands of women in clinical trials all around the world, and the results from those trials are actively supporting lifesaving treatment and care that is being provided to cancer patients at this very moment. They are determined in their mission to save lives everywhere, and this goal is greatly supported by donor contributions.

Please join Women Who Rock and Gibson Guitars as they #StrikeAChord this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by making a donation to Magee-Womens Research Institute here. There are still a few days left until the end of the month to have your donations doubled as all donations received during the month of October will be matched by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan up to $25,000.
