With endeavors in songwriting, performing, film, and more, few artists can say they have a hand in everything quite as much as Briana Cash.

Cash grew up in Orlando, Florida and had quite an early exposure to performing in public. At the age of nine, her mother convinced her to join a choir, which unknowingly laid the foundation for Cash’s future career in music. She would later move to Boston, Massachusetts to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

During her time at Berklee, she honed her music skills even further, having started playing the guitar and working on her jazz vocal skills under the direction and encouragement of a helpful vocal instructor. After college, she remained in Boston where she taught and made her own music.

During her time there, she also had the opportunity to work as a music supervisor and composer for a series that would eventually go on to win awards and be featured on the Amazon Prime video streaming service.

“I’ve always wanted to do these things and they slowly kind of just happened,” Cash said.

She would later move to her current home in Los Angeles, California where she continues to work on various projects involving music and film.

Like many others, Cash has faced a number of challenges since the COVID-19 global pandemic has temporarily put a pause on many projects in both the music and film industries. Cash says the pandemic has been something of an emotional roller coaster; she was always on the move prior to quarantine, and now misses the interaction.

“For a while, I wasn’t motivated to write music,” Cash said.

However, Cash says there are some benefits to this new experience. The challenges she has faced has inspired her to come up with new music that she may not have come up with otherwise, and despite writing her last four albums all on her own, she has now begun collaborating and cowriting with other artists more frequently.

“I like collaborations because so much comes up that you normally wouldn’t think of,” Cash said.

Despite any challenges and setbacks, however, Cash emphasizes the importance of staying optimistic through it all.

“We are all in this together, and we will get through this,” Cash said.

While Cash has also faced challenges as a strong woman in the predominantly male music industry, she believes that it is very important for up and coming artists to stay true to themselves and the music that they make.

“Be confident and do what you do,” Cash said. “If you believe in yourself, just go for it.”
