Women in Business Spotlight: Bronze Beauty Spray Tanning

Looking great can go a long way towards helping women feel great for any occasion, and sometimes a personal touch is exactly what they need to help them embrace their inner beauty. One woman committed to this mission is Sarah Rubino, spray tan artist and owner of Bronze Beauty Spray Tanning.

Rubino’s journey in the tanning industry started right after college, when she got a job working at a tanning salon. It wasn’t long before she fell in love with the industry and started to entertain the idea of opening her own tanning salon.

“Once I started doing research, I stumbled upon mobile spray tanning,” Rubino said. “I never actually spray tanned someone before, and once I started practicing on friends, I was hooked.”

Although she never really imagined herself owning her own business one day, Rubino realized that her real dream was to have something of her own after working multiple jobs across different industries.

“Once I started working on the business, I realized how much work was involved and didn’t want to give up what I had done so far,” Rubino said. “I was determined to make it work and make it successful.”

Rubino officially started Bronze Beauty Spray Tanning 10 years ago, and since then, they have serviced thousands of clients in the Pittsburgh area. Their goal is to enhance natural beauty using safe sunless tanning solutions.

“I feel the beauty industry is always growing and is something that will never go away,” Rubino said. “Even with spray tanning, there are new solutions always being made, new techniques on how to spray someone, new products.”

While there are many rewarding facets to her work, Rubino says one of her favorite parts is getting to meet lots of new people. She also loves when her clients continue to come back to her because they became comfortable with working with her.

“The most rewarding part of my business is when a client looks in the mirror after giving them a spray tan and watching the smile on their face,” Rubino said. “There have been so many times clients tell me how much better they feel after getting a spray tan. It lifts their mood and boosts their confidence.”

Although she has enjoyed many successes, Rubino’s business has not been without challenges. Specifically, the COVID-19 global pandemic forced her business to close for a few months, and when it reopened, business was rather slow. However, she managed to pull through that challenge and is now looking towards the future, which includes the development and launch of her own tanning line.

Rubino says opening her own business has allowed her to step out of her comfort zone, which was a challenge at first being that she is generally a shy, quiet person. For other women who may be looking to start businesses of their own, her biggest piece of advice is to simply go for it.

“It is going to be hard, stressful, and you’ll feel like you want to give up, but push through all of that,” Rubino said. “Once you see your business grow and become successful, all that hard work pays off.”
