Sheila E. Makes History as First Female Solo Percussionist to Receive Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star

On Wednesday, “The Queen of Percussion” was honored with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Sheila E. has been a staple of the music industry for over 45 years – and she’s still killing it! After starting off her career in the 1970s with The George Duke Band, she went on to build a solo career as a singer/percussionist and has been on stage with some of the biggest names in music. From Prince to Beyonce to Ringo Starr, Sheila has truly worked with everyone! Sheila’s solo hit The Glamorous Life (1984) was written and produced with her friend, Prince.

Sheila E. has four Grammy nominations and was awarded the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Latin Grammy Awards.

Throughout the years, female artists of all genres have tipped their hats to Sheila E. as one of their biggest inspirations. H.E.R., who spoke at the start ceremony, was in awe of Sheila’s impact and achievements:

“Thank you so much for representing women. For representing artists, musicians; women that are musicians, and for getting the respect that we deserve. Sometimes we’re underestimated, they see drums sticks or a guitar and say: What’s this little girl going to do? And you’ve really paved the way for artists like me, so thank you so much for that.”

H.E.R. and Sheila E. previously worked together on a tribute to Prince, following his passing in 2016.

Sheila has been an incredible supporter of Women Who Rock, performed at our concert in 2019, and received the 2021 Women Who Rock Impact Award. We’re so excited to see the recognition that Sheila has gotten for her hard work throughout the years, and can’t wait to see what she does next.

Congratulations, Sheila!
