Tina Turner: Celebrating a Legend

A household name for the past six decades, Tina Turner had a life and career unlike anyone else. Strong, talented, and perseverant are just a few of the words often used to describe the late performer.

In the 1950s, Tina began her career as a background singer on Turner’s Kings of Rhythm. Later, alongside then-husband Ike Turner, Tina created her biggest hits yet such as “Proud Mary” and “River Deep — Mountain High.”

Following her separation from Ike due to extreme abuse, Tina fought her way back to the top of the music industry, against all odds. This version of Tina, the strong and powerful star, was the woman who came to inspire millions worldwide. Tina was only just getting started, and she was unstoppable.

It’s almost impossible to summarize a career like Tina’s. If you can think of it, she probably did it! From performing alongside Mick Jagger at Live Aid in 1985 to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Tina was everywhere.

Not only did everyday fans look up to Tina, countless artists considered Tina one of the greats and a hugel inspiration in their own careers. Beyoncé, Janis Joplin, Lizzo, and David Bowie are just a few of these inspired artists, though the list could go on forever.

Tina Turner and Beyoncé performed together at the 2008 Grammy Awards. After Tina’s passing, Beyoncé honored her during her Renaissance World Tour stop in Paris and shared the following message on her website:

“My beloved Queen. I love you endlessly. I’m so grateful for your inspiration, and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strength and resilience. You are the epitome of power and passion. We are all so fortunate to have witnessed your kindness and beautiful spirit that will forever remain. Thank you for all you have done.”

Throughout her life, Tina was always sure to prioritize self-love and doing what was best for herself. From pulling herself out of an abusive marriage to moving to Switzerland to live out her personal dreams, Tina was always sure to give herself a little extra love.

While we mourn the loss of the truly iconic Tina Turner, we can’t thank her enough for the impact that she’s had on women within and outside of the music industry. There will never be another one like her, and she’ll always have a place with us.

Thank you, Tina.
